By: Amanda Froelich/True Activist Did you know? In less than a decade, the African Elephant is expected to go extinct. This acknowledged, why on Earth would the U.S. — specifically, President Donald Trump — allow trophies from the majestic beasts to be imported into the first-world nations? Most likely, for profit, under the guise of conservation. Rather than drone on about why hunting animals for conservation purposes is misleading, we’ll direct you to this, this and this article.
Well-known individuals who have already spoken out against the rash decision include Leonardo DiCaprio, Pamela Anderson, Ricky Gervais, Shannon Doherty, Olivia Munn, and Ellen DeGeneres. And DeGeneres isn’t just talking about change, she’s taking action.

Recently, the host of the Ellen Show announced that she has started a campaign with the hashtag #BeKindtoElephants. In the opening monologue, DeGeneres asked viewers to stand up for the majestic land mammals. She then highlighted many of the creatures’ awe-inspiring capabilities.
“I have to talk about something that is very, very important to me…President Trump reversed one of Barack Obama’s policies which prohibited hunters from bringing elephant trophies into the United States. So, basically by lifting this ban, he’s encouraging Americans to kill elephants…Elephants show compassion, sympathy, social intelligence, self-awareness. They’re excellent at learning abilities.”
She added, “All the things I’ve yet to see in this president. Many things I don’t like about this guy, but this got me…I am determined to do something about this. I’m posting this picture on Instagram. If you’re as outraged as I am, please repost it, retweet it with the hashtag #BeKindToElephants. And for everyone who does, we’ll make a donation to The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust to help protect elephants…They are worth fighting for and we owe it to them to protect them.”

During his second term in office, former President Barack Obama banned the importation of “trophies” from African elephants. Now that President Trump has lifted the ban, tourists will be able to hunt game in Zambia and Zimbabwe, then return to the United States with lion pelts, ivory tusks, and other trophies.
